Call for homeless sounds!

Sent out the text below to some friends earlier. If you read this and didn’t get the mail you are very welcome to contribute.  Then contact me on the address you find under About riwid

“I have together with the group Dånk! been invited by the Stadmuseum (city museum in Göteborg) to do a sound-installation about homeless people in the city of Gothenburg. The work is going to be placed inside the sewers of the city of Gothenburg. And now we need some help from you.

Our idea is to record places around the globe where homeless people hang out and then playback these “spaces” in the sewers in the city of Gothenburg. And now we ask you to record these spaces where you live (or where you are at the moment) and send the recordings to us. It would of-course be interesting to record places close to sewers or even in sewers if that’s possible (some people live in sewers and in some countries they are used for arranging parties etc). Don’t worry about if it is noisy or not when you are recording. The important thing is that we have a collection of spaces on the theme from around the world.

The recordings can be of any length. From “objects” of 3 seconds to 15 minutes etc. It would be nice to have pure recordings so that we can mix them together later. We would prefer to have the audio as wav or aiff files with at least 44.1 khz 16 bit (Flac is of-course ok). And yes we also have the “right” to edit the recordings when we make our own mix, that is part of the idea.

The overall concept: very briefly the curator’s idea is to make people aware of the difficult and unfortunate situation of homeless people.

All the people involved in the project will have their credit in the final art-piece and one of the ideas is to release a cd with all the recordings.

So let me know asap if you are interested. The exhibition is opening in February so we need to get something by end of January latest. We are happy for material of any length, quality, content etc so you don’t need to take the task too serious. We are happy with as much and diverse material as possible in this case. Please also write down the place of each recording. You can also send us recordings that you made previously if they suit the concept.

And we are of-course grateful if you forward this mail to people or lists that are of interest.”
